How to get your Apartment Security Deposit back!! By Toni Dee of rheesreality.com A great way to get your Security Deposit back is to return the apartment as it was received minus normal wear and tear. Alot of people do not realize that tons of stains or permanent stains on carpet is NOT considered normal wear and tear. We have so many people not care properly for their carpet and then have to pay to replace it!! Another thing people will do is just leave without checking with the office to see if a walk-through is required. Even if it isn't required, I would strongly suggest it!!!! If you don't, then whatever they decide to charge you for something, you will not have any recourse once all is said and done!! And lastly, always check your Lease to see how long of a notice you should give. Most properties have at least a Thirty day notice. If you don't give that notice and you move, you will still owe rent for that notice period even if its deducted from your deposit and you are billed the difference. And it will hold up in court if it is in the Lease Agreement!!
